Alumni Alert: Long NFL Career for Glencliff Alum
In his eighth NFL season, Houston Texans linebacker Tim Dobbins’ football roots can be traced back to his playing days as a Glencliff Colt. Drafted out of Iowa State by the San Diego Chargers, Dobbins is in his third year with the Texans after four years in San Diego and one year with the Miami Dolphins. Selected as a captain by his Texan teammates in 2012, he had a great game in last year’s match-up against the Titans when he intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble. Dobbins and the Texans come to town later this season to play the Titans at LP Field on December 29.
More than the Game – Helpful Hosts at Hunters Lane
A large crowd and the NSR enjoyed a great night last Friday as Whites Creek visited Hunters Lane. The football game went right down to the wire with both teams playing their hearts out; the two bands were extraordinary; the late third quarter concessions stand burger was superb; the pre-game tailgating was top-notch; and the atmosphere was simply electric! It takes more than the faculty, staff and fans to create such a smooth-running, family-friendly event. Here’s a shout out to the Hunters Lane Army JROTC who greeted me at the parking lot, guided me to the tailgate festivities, welcomed me to the stadium, posted the American flag, and presented the colors for the National Anthem – all under the direction of Colonel Barry Sprouse. Thank you for your service and leadership!

Friday Night = Football Night = Family Night = Community Night
TWow! The atmosphere at Stratford was fantastic Friday night. Families tailgating outside the gates, an elementary school PTO supporting the high school, friendly faces and greetings met the North Sports Report even before we reached the ticket booth. The stands were full, the bands for Stratford and Pearl-Cohn were rocking, the football was excellent, and everyone had a good time. Belmont University students were recognized at halftime for their volunteer work in cleaning and painting the stadium; and the stadium looked great. Nothing beats a festive, family-friendly Friday night of football!
Alumni Alert: Antioch Alum / Marine in the National Spotlight
MTSU student and former Antioch Bear Steven Rhodes made the rounds on television news shows and was recognized nationally for his service to his country as a Marine and for standing up to the NCAA when it ruled that he was ineligible to play college football due to his previous military service. Merely stating the NCAA’s position on the issue underscores its absurdity. Nevertheless, Steven appealed through the appropriate channels until common sense prevailed and he suited up for the Blue Raiders of MTSU. Good luck this season and thank you for your service.
