Fall-Hamilton Elementary was selected as the recipient of a $37,000 Leader.org grant that will help the school implement The Leader in Me, a student leadership program.

The program, “teaches 21st century leadership and life skills to students and creates a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader,” according to the program’s website.

The program is inspired by Stephen Covey’s book,”The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.”

The Leader.org grant will cover all student, teacher, and classroom materials and 8 days of training for the staff. Cat Financial will be covering some of the cost of the program’s implementation with a $6,500 donation, which means the program will come with zero cost to the school and the district.

Fall-Hamilton believes the leadership curriculum will have a positive impact on the students and its school community.

“The Leader in Me is based on the work of Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, but framed for children. These habits are truly the foundation which will allow our students to be successful not only in school, but also in life,” said Mathew Portell, Fall-Hamilton Elementary principal. “The 7 Habits will be engrained in the culture of our school through the creation of leadership roles for every student. By creating leaders in elementary schools, we are prepare the world for successful adults!”
