The countdown to summer break begins now – here are some important dates

As exciting and frightening as it seems, we’re in the final stretch to May 25 – the official end of the school year.

There is still a lot of work to do in preparation for summer. Here’s what you can expect:

Assessments

The second half of TNReady, TCAP and End-of-Course exams:

High School Courses

April 25-29:

  • TNReady Math and English-Language Arts
  • End-of-Course exams for U.S History, Biology, Chemistry

Elementary and Middle School Courses

May 2-6:

  • TNReady Math and English-Language Arts
  • TCAP Social Studies, TCAP Science

April 19: All high school juniors in Metro Schools and in the state of Tennessee will take the ACT. Here are some tips to be ready.

Budget

The 2016-2017 operating budget has been drafted and is scheduled for a vote from the Board of Education in upcoming weeks. Here’s a timeline for how it will move forward:

April 12:  Final budget committee meeting and vote

April 14: District officials present their budget to Mayor Megan Barry

There will also be a budget hearing with the Metro Council, after which it will be considered as part of the overall Metro city budget. Get more information on the budget process here.

Graduation

You knew this day was coming, parents. The day your baby would finally graduate and you would have to come to terms with the fact your child is finally growing up. This major milestone is a time of celebration in Metro Schools.

April 4: Report cards issued

April 4-8: Kindergarten Registration

April 18-29: Prekindergarten Registration

April 19: Parent University (south clusters)

April 21: Director PAC meeting

April 22: Progress reports issued
