Chief Academic Officer Jay Steele departing Metro Schools

Chief Academic Officer Jay Steele will be leaving his position with Metro Schools to work for an educational non-profit. His last day of employment with the district will be this Friday, Dec. 4.

Statement from Interim Director of Schools Chris Henson:

“On behalf of our staff and students, we greatly appreciate Dr. Steele’s service to our school district. His work most notably led to the transformation of our high schools through the Academies of Nashville model. As a result, our district has been nationally recognized for our high school reform.

“Appointing a new Chief Academic Officer is a responsibility best left to the new permanent Director of Schools that the Board intends to hire before June next year. In the meantime, we will rely on the deep bench of talent in our Leadership & Learning department to continue supervising and supporting our school principals during this time of transition.”
