INFOGRAPHICS: Metro Schools leads the pack in reforming discipline practices
Metro Schools is tackling the discipline gap, and so far, we’ve made progress.
But we are by no means done in taking a hard look the policies, community issues and school cultures that lead to inequity in suspensions and expulsions. This is only the beginning.
“What we are seeing is a reduction in suspensions across all groups,” Tony Majors, chief of Metro Schools support services, told The Tennessean. “We still have some work to do in decreasing the number of minorities being suspended at higher rates.”
According to figures released to The Tennessean comparing the first quarter of the 2015-2016 school year to the 2014-2015 school year, out-of-school suspensions are down 29 percent and in-school suspensions are down 47 percent.
