UPDATE: MNPS principal & teacher honored by prestigious national program
Two Metro educators have been honored to represent the district in a nationwide education program.
Goodlettsville Middle School Principal, Dr. Jill Pittman and East End Preparatory teacher Ellie Grace have both been elected for a prestigious two-year fellowship with “America Achieves,” a national organization which works to build high-quality educational systems through professional training.
The America Achieves program brings together diverse principals and teachers to promote college and career readiness in American public schools. The America Achieves fellowship helps to focus development around raising important topics like raising expectations, advancing the teaching profession, family engagement and education policy.
“We want to help promote practices that raise student achievement in both Nashville and across the country,” says Dr. Pittman. “I have no doubt that being part of the great MNPS system made me a desirable candidate. I can’t wait to get started!”
America Achieves also works to bridge the connection between educators and policy makers at both the local, state and national level. Both will get to meet many leaders in education from across the nation in person when they attends America Achieves’ cornerstone event in New York City this October where they will get to learn what’s working in similar inner-city districts to help raise the bar for academic excellence.
