It’s Back to School time for parents, too
The beginning of a new school year is an exciting time. Most families look forward to it, but for others it can be daunting. To help families make a smooth transition into the school year, Metro Schools and its community partners are hosting the 2014 Parent University Conference Saturday, August 16. Parent University brings together workshops, health screenings, youth activities and community services to ensure all families can be successful. The entire family is welcome to attend, with free childcare provided by the YMCA.
This year’s conference is directly tied to the district’s strategic plan, Education 2018: Excellence for Every Student, with the theme of “Together We Can Grow, Achieve and Empower.” Families will work with educators and district employees to learn how to be more involved in their child’s education and how best to support them in their academics. They will also receive health services, school supplies, uniform vouchers and more. One lucky family will even win a new computer.
At past Parent University Conferences, parents have shared their enthusiastic feedback:
“I thought the event was AWESOME! It’s a great resource for the parents, and I really appreciate MNPS for making it happen.”
“Thank you. I had not heard of Parent University. I feel better about sending my children to a public high school. I am happy I came and will spread the word to other middle school parents.”
“An awesome, engaging, real life experience that truly directs the paths of students.”
This is the seventh year for Parent University, and it promises to be one of the biggest and best yet.
