Look into the future of East Nashville and Stratford STEM Magnet High School

What does the future hold for East Nashville? Part of that future rests at Stratford STEM Magnet High School, which will look like this in 2016:

Earlier today, parents, students, community supporters and Councilman Anthony Davis celebrated how far Stratford has come and where it will go. They got an up-close look at what the school will look like after a $20 million renovation scheduled to start this summer.

The new Stratford will include:

  • More classrooms
  • A bigger library, including an outdoor reading deck and monumental stairs
  • Collaborative spaces for students to work on projects
  • A new entrance
  • A bigger kitchen
  • New offices
  • A two-story lobby
  • New windows, lighting and signs
  • Brand new heating and cooling equipment

As Councilman Davis said, the design is “private school quality.”

The renovation is designed specifically for the school’s Academies, its STEM focus (science, technology, engineering and math) and project-based learning. Students will have larger spaces to learn that are better equipped for the technology they need and brand new spaces that let them work together on projects all year long.

This is the latest step in a journey Stratford has been making for four years. It has a strong academic focus on STEM courses, a positive climate and is a place where students, faculty and staff feel good about coming to work every day. The renovation will give them the spaces they need to build on their success.

Take a look at some of the things Stratford students and faculty have accomplished in just the last year and you will see: Stratford has come a long way and it will continue to rise in the future.

Special thanks to those who came to show support for Stratford today: Councilman Anthony Davis, members of the Community PTO, community supporters and Stratford cluster principals.
