Autism Awareness Month: Learn from experts and families on April 25
Metro Schools is once again marking Autism Awareness Month with a special event for families, educators and community members. One of the country’s leading experts on autism is coming to Nashville for an event where families can learn from and connect with each other.
Dr. Shawn Stewart is a psychologist, writer and all-around expert on Autism Spectrum Disorder. From his website:
Today Dr. Stewart is nationally known from his appearances on ABC News, Parent Magazine and from his work with the State of Tennessee as a behavioral expert for the State Board of Education specializing in the area of intervention for Autism Spectrum and other Developmental Disabilities. He also is a featured newspaper columnist, and former radio show host of “On the Couch” for many years.
Dr. Shawn Stewart’s seminars have been attended by tens of thousands of educators. One of his current and most popular seminars for educators, “Working with Autism Spectrum Disorders,” is currently being transformed into an iPad, iPhone, Android and smart phone app and will soon be released.
Becoming an “educator’s educator” allowed him to quickly effect that positive change. He was also a professor of psychology at a number of Nashville, TN, area Universities and is a consultant with national and international corporations and schools. “I am often asked why I love what I do. The answer is simple: whether it be seeing individual clients, teaching graduate students, providing seminars or writing, I love to help facilitate change for the positive,” Dr. Shawn shares.
You can hear Dr. Stewart speak at “Putting the Pieces Together,” an autism awareness event hosted by Metro Schools. The event will help raise awareness and connect families with needed autism resources. The entire MNPS Autism Team will be there, too.
If you would like to attend, please RSVP to email@example.com.
