What exciting news! Martin Luther King, Jr. Magnet School is nominated for 2014 National Blue Ribbon status.

National Blue Ribbon Schools are:

  1. Schools whose students, regardless of background, achieve in the top 10 percent of their state on state tests or, in the case of private schools, in the top 10 percent of the nation on nationally normed tests; and
  2. Schools with at least 40 percent of their students from disadvantaged backgrounds that demonstrate dramatic improvement of student performance to high levels on state tests or nationally-normed tests.

Just last year, Meigs Middle Magnet School was named a National Blue Ribbon School, one of just four in Tennessee. It was the third time in five years that Metro Schools had a National Blue Ribbon School.

We anxiously await the big reveal in September to see who will be named the 2014 National Blue Ribbon Schools.

Congratulations to the students and faculty at MLK for earning the nomination!
