President Obama to speak at McGavock High School

What exciting news! President Barack Obama will be in Nashville this Thursday, January 30, to visit and speak at McGavock High School.

Why McGavock?

McGavock is a shining example of the high school redesign through the Academies of Nashville that has been underway here in Nashville since 2005. Since that time, graduation rates in our zoned high schools have jumped more than 20 percentage points, a fact the President recognized in a recent speech.

Though he is visiting only McGavock, his recognition reflects on all Metro schools. Our city’s national reputation for education reform and improvement has grown and grown, and now has been cemented.

NOTE: The President’s visit and speech is an invitation-only event. All invitations have been claimed, so please do not call the school asking for tickets. There are no tickets to give.

But there’s good news! Even if you don’t have a ticket, you can watch the President’s speech live on the White House website:
