Super Bowl[ing] Week
Years of spending “spare” time hanging out in the “alley” and keeping their mind out of the “gutter” culminate in a jaunt down championship “lane” this week as ten MNPS student-athletes compete for the TSSAA Bowling State Championship in Smyrna. Qualifiers include:
- Kaitlin Cahsion, MLK
- Kelsie Holland, McGavock
- Matt Holland, McGavock
- Lexi Livingston, Cane Ridge
- Leroy Nguyen, Overton
- Austin Owen, Maplewood
- Alysa Pace, Overton
- Aaron Ruiz, Cane Ridge
- Sula Vetter, Antioch
- Amanda Wells, Hume-Fogg
Cane Ridge’s Aaron Ruiz enters the Championship tournament with an amazing average of 230.00 and is one of the favorites to take home the individual championship. The tournament starts today and runs through Saturday. Follow the action online at www.tssaa.org.

Betts was named Red Sox Minor League Offensive Player of the Year and the Arizona Fall League Rising Star in 2013.
Alumni Alert II: Basketball – Overton Grad Named National Player of the Week
The Tennessean reports that former Overton Bobcat Cameron Lewis, a junior at Fisk, was named NAIA National Player of the Week and is 10th in the nation in scoring, 5th in the nation in assists and 5th in steals. Congratulations!
Sad News: The Passing of Coach Jim Wilson
Our deepest condolences to Glencliff Principal Clint Wilson on the passing of his father, former Glencliff and East Nashville football coach Jim Wilson. Coach Wilson is the epitome of a great and honorable leader of young men. He guided Glencliff to the state championship game in 1999 and helped lay the foundation for the continued success at East Nashville. Our thoughts are with Coach Wilson’s wife Gail, and the rest of his family.
Coach, thank you for your friendship and for the light of compassion and integrity your life shone for the young people of Nashville.
Overton Coach Terry Anderson was named coach of the year at the A.D. Hancock-Walter Nipper Awards ceremony hosted by the Nashville Civitan Club. Also receiving Hancock-Nipper Awards were Pearl-Cohn’s Hayden Gregory and Overton’s Charles Nartey. Congratulations!
Antioch Addition to the 1,000 Point Club
Congratulations to Antioch Lady Bears hoopster D’Toria Fowler who scored her 1,000 point earlier this season and was presented with a basketball in a ceremony Friday night to commemorate the feat. Congratulations!
