Four reasons to attend Selection Day in person
Parents invited to event on Saturday, January 11
The next step in the school choice process happens in two days. Selection Day 2014 is this Saturday, when parents find out which optional schools their children can attend for the 2014-15 school year.
Full selection results will be posted online by noon on Saturday, but if they attend in person, parents can:
1. Get Their Results First
Full Selection Day results are always posted online, but this year results will be available first at the Martin Center. Online results will be available by noon.
2. Ask Any Questions They Want
Once parents know the results, what happens next? Officials from the Student Assignment office will be on hand at the event to answer all parent questions. They can assist with upcoming deadlines, transportation questions and more. They can also look up student information for more specific questions and answers.
3. Receive Printed Confirmation of Their Child’s Selection Results
District officials will have direct access to full results and will print written confirmation of individual results upon request. Printed confirmations will also include important upcoming dates and information for making a final decision.
4. Meet with School Representatives
Principals, students and other school representatives will be on hand to speak with parents about their school choices. Just because their results are in hand does not mean the choice has been made. Parents attending Selection Day can still investigate and learn about their school choices on-site by speaking with school representatives and other parents.
Selection Day is this Saturday, January 11, from 9:00 a.m. to noon
at the Martin Professional Development Center (2400 Fairfax Avenue, 37212)
While parents who attend in person are given no advantage in acceptance status, it is the perfect opportunity to learn more about their choices. The Customer Service Center can also answer parent questions about optional schools and final steps on the phone or in person. It is open Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
Optional schools will be open for parent tours on “Walk Through Tuesdays” January 21, January 28 and February 4. Acceptance letters will be mailed home on January 22, and are due back at Central Office by 5:30 p.m. on February 7.
