North Sports Report – October 3, 2013
by Mark North, president of The Fans, Inc
ACT Practice Test
- a walk in the park
- the place where campers sleep
- last week’s Hume-Fogg vs. MLK girls soccer match
Correct Answer: c.
The North Sports Report marveled at the nonstop action and fierce competition between these two rivals. The stands at historic Pearl High Football Stadium on the MLK campus were packed with screaming, face-painted, drum-beating, flag-waving students from both schools. For those who have never attended a sporting event at that historic and majestic location, do it soon. Bloodied and battered (seriously, sometimes there is blood in soccer), the student-athletes franticly battled to the last whistle with the supportive throng behind them. The NSR was exhausted just from watching. Put attending games between these two rivals on your To Do list…Intense!
If this were an oral exam, you also would receive credit for “b. the place where campers sleep” i.e. in tents.
Middle School Volleyball – State Legislator in the House
The NSR joined State Representative Darren Jernigan (Hunters Lane graduate) at Neely’s Bend Middle School for the volleyball matches pitting DuPont Hadley Middle, Two Rivers Middle, and Neely’s Bend Middle.
Neely’s Bend Middle still displays the vintage Golden Beaver mascot. Groovy!

The game will be broadcast on WUXP Channel 30, so come out to the game and when the camera catches a glimpse of you in the stands, tug your ear, say “Hi Mom,” or wave. The viewing audience wants to see you there!
