Dr. Register to fire off first pitch for the Nashville Sounds and Simon Youth

Dr. Register & OzzieJust because school is starting back doesn’t mean that summer’s favorite game has gone away. Come out to Greer Stadium to share one last summer night with your favorite local baseball team and help a few Metro Schools in the process.

The Nashville Sounds are hosting “Simon Youth Foundation Night at the Ballpark” next Thursday, August 1 (yes it’s the first day of school, but you don’t have to go to school the next day!). It’s a good welcome back for our families and $4 of every $12 ticket bought through our group will go to the Simon Youth Foundation, the organization behind our Academies at Old Cockrill, Opry Mills and Hickory Hollow. That money will serve to fund student scholarships and programs at our local SYF schools.

As a bonus, Dr. Jesse Register will throw out the first pitch AND you get $2 food and drinks! You know you don’t want to miss that!

The Academy schools have graduated more than 1,500 students in the three years of their existence. They do it through a non-traditional approach where students work to earn the eight or fewer credits they need to finish a diploma. Visit their websites to learn more:

From SYF:

For 15 years, Simon Youth Foundation® has partnered with public school districts and communities across the nation to help at-risk students achieve their high school diplomas and pursue their dreams of post-secondary education.

In celebration of these achievements and to kick-off another successful school year, please join Simon Youth Foundation, Metro Nashville Public Schools and the Nashville Sounds for SYF Night at the Ballpark, Thursday, August 1, 2013 as the Las Vegas 51s take on the Nashville Sounds at Greer Stadium. The game starts at 7:05 P.M. Dr. Jesse Register, MNPS Director of Schools, will throw out the first pitch!
