Fun Contest: Read 20 books, battle with other students

A team from John Early Museum Magnet Middle School won this year’s Battle of the Books competition!

This is a reading comprehension competition open to all middle schools in MNPS. Students, in teams of 4-5, read 20 books over the course of year then compete against other teams in their schools. Each participating school sends a team to the district battle held at the downtown library in May. The winning John Early team triumphed over 15 schools to emerge as the 2013 Battle of the Books Champions and returned to school in style riding in a black stretch limo!

The winning JEMMMS students who competed were:

  • Jathen H.
  • Javon L.
  • Emma M.
  • Cora M.
  • Eriq L.

To top it off, John Early 8th grader McKenna got to introduc Mayor Karl Dean during the Battle of the Books festivities.

This isn’t an easy contest, so we want to also congratulation ALL students who took part. What a way to end a year of reading.
