Red carpet glamour at the Academies of Nashville Video Awards

Academies of Nashville Video AwardsIn the middle of the prestigious Nashville Film Festival next week you will find a theater full of Metro high schoolers and their proud, proud teachers watching student art unspool on screen.

The Academies of Nashville Video Awards are here again. This year’s ceremony is happening conjunction with the Nashville Film Festival, which means students get the full filmmaker experience – including the red carpet.

Video projects honored at the ceremony come from a district-wide contest meant to show off the great work happening inside high school Academies. They’ll win awards in 14 categories, including Best in Show and the publicly voted Community Favorite.

Last year’s show was lavish and fully produced for broadcast by Metro high schoolers and MTSU communications students. MTSU is a stellar partner in sponsoring the event, but also in producing it. The university’s Department of Electronic Media Communication will bring its $1.2 million mobile production truck, giving Metro students firsthand experience in all aspects of production.

The show is next Monday at the Green Hills Regal Cinema. Because of limited space, it is invitation only, but don’t worry. We’ll post all the winners right here and on our sister blog, My Academy Blog.
