Scholarship Alert: Money for blood from the Red Cross
Yes, volunteering feels great and does great things for your community. But it also doesn’t look too shabby on a resume. In this case it can actually help you pay for college.
The Red Cross has put together the “BloodStock Summer Scholarship Challenge” to help boost blood donations and pump up local youth who give their time to the cause. Students who organize blood drives this summer (May 1-Aug 31) are eligible for either a $1,000 or $2,000 scholarship to the college of their choice.
This is a great way to keep the blood flowing over the summer for the Red Cross. Twenty percent of blood donations come from young people, and those donations often slow from a gush to a trickle (or even clot) during the summer months. Folks at the Red Cross hope programs like this can help stem the bleeding before they are sucked dry.
So join in. Help heal Nashville’s wounds and lower the pressure on the good people at the Red Cross.
BloodStock is a scholarship opportunity for high school and college students. Student blood drive coordinators (BDCs) will gain a meaningful leadership and community service experience. In addition, BDCs may become eligible to win a college scholarship, receive a letter of recommendation from the American Red Cross and a $50 gift card!
Blood Drive Coordinator Selection Process and Responsibilities
Students should submit an online application to participate in the BDC selection process. Applicants must be between the ages of 16-24 to participate. Students will be contacted by a local American Red Cross representative to discuss their potential as a BloodStock BDC.
Selected BDCs will work hand-in-hand with an American Red Cross representative as they lead a team of recruiters in hosting a life-saving blood drive. A successful BloodStock blood drive can help ensure a safe blood supply.
