Read Me Week success!
Another successful Read Me Week is in the books!
(So to speak.)
We had celebrity guest readers, wonderful volunteers, contests and more than 40,000 students reading simultaneously for 20 minutes – not to mention a lot of plain old fashioned everyday reading!
Thank you to everyone who came to our schools, read with a child or otherwise celebrated Read Me Week. It’s always one of our favorite times of year.
Stratton Elementary wrote to us to show how they celebrated Read Me Week. Let’s let Literacy Coach Yolanda Taylor tell the story:
Taylor-Stratton Elementary celebrated Read Me Week with an entire week of activities. The halls were decorated with the theme “Once Upon a Time” complete with fairy-tale forests and a Snow White inspired hallway. Our students and teachers participated in dress-up days including a Book Character Day and Read Me Day where we read each other all day! We played games with our families on Family Reading Night and enjoyed dinner. Our culminating Guest Reader Day on Friday was a huge success. We had a total of 97 readers including Senator Thelma Harper, Vicki Yates from Newschannel 5 and a host of Metro Personnel, Trevecca University Professors, and community members.
