5 big questions about Common Core State Standards

It’s at the top of every educator’s mind: Common Core. It should be top of mind for all of us, especially parents.

But talk among ed folk doesn’t necessarily help the rest of us understand it any better. What does Common Core really mean and how are the new standards affecting my child right now?

Over on MNPS.org we’ve put together a resource center all about Common Core. We call it “Common Core Central.” It answers the five big questions you’re sure to have:

  • Why change to Common Core?
  • How is it different?
  • How does it work?
  • How is it tested?
  • How does it affect my child?

We have answers for each question and a long list of other resources available online that can help you see and better understand the new standards.

There is even a video from Cole Elementary showing Common Core State Standards in action inside of classrooms.

Visit our website for answers to these questions and other great resources on Common Core State Standards. If you still have questions or just want to know more, explore the links we provide and speak with your child’s teacher and principal.
